Foundation Activities & Objectives
Research and Development
- Actively work to ensure that adequate federal funding is provided for research and development in the applications of addiction treatment.
- Actively work with professional to encourage research collaborations with to develop new technologies.
- Work with physicians, addiction professionals, institutions and medical societies to ensure that time and resources are provided for addiction professionals to investigate new ideas and technologies.
- Provide information and assistance to physicians, addiction professionals, institutions, and treatment centers, about resources of, and techniques for, obtaining research and development funding.
- Provide forums for the exchange of information and discussion of new ideas.
- Support and promote a research component in academic addiction studies programs.
- Provide research awards for R & D specialists.
Dissemination of Information
- Organize, conduct and sponsor regional meetings with scientific and educational sessions and publish the proceedings as appropriate.
- Sponsor journal publications to disseminate information on clinical and basic science research in addiction studies.
- Promote and sponsor the publication of text books and reports to act as guides for standards and as primers for new subfields and specialties related to addiction studies.
Disseminate objective evaluations of new modalities and technology.
- Develop and distribute through electronic media (e.g., internet bulletin boards, video tapes and compact disks) information concerned with scientific and educational addiction profession endeavors and the activities of CFAAP.
- Disseminate material appropriate for educating the public about the practice of addiction treatment.
Providing Education for Addiction Professionals and Community
- Recommend standards for addiction profession educational program curricula and promote non-graduate and post graduate program accreditation.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of programs in addiction profession.
- Promote the establishment and quality assurance of treatment facilities to ensure a satisfactory level of clinical competence.
- Hold education courses at annual meetings and at joint meetings with other societies.
- Organize and sponsor local and regional workshops and symposia on addiction treatment, including implementation of new techniques.
- Compile databases containing sources of educational and technical material.
Review and Recommend Education Content for CAADAC and CCBADC
CFAAP is also the official autonomous education board for the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) and the California Certification Board of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (CCBADC.) CFAAP has the exclusive responsibility of reviewing all provider and educational institutes education content to ensure it meets the CCBADC certification and recertification requirements. CFAAP submits approvals, denials, and deferments for educational institutes and/or providers who apply directly to CAADAC who issues notification to the providers.
